ROPER Isabel (nee Steele) Born in Toronto, Ontario on June 10, 1914; Isabel passed away peacefully from complications following a stroke at Burnaby General Hospital on the morning of May 3, 2009. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Jack, sister Ethel, and brother Jim; she is survived by her son John; daughter-in-law Elizabeth; her grandchildren Pablo, Andre, Isabela, and Alexandra who loved their Nana; four young great-grandchildren whom she doted on; and the members of the Steele Family living in Ontario. In 1949, Isabel and Jack moved to Burnaby where she lived in the Brentwood Area for over 50 years. Isabel was very active for many years in the Girl Guides of Canada and was awarded a life membership for her contribution to the organization. She was also a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a dedicated volunteer to their cancer-dressing program. In acknowledgement of her community activities, the City of Burnaby recognized her as an honouree of the Kushiro Cup in 1999, an award given for outstanding civic contribution. She was an inspiration to all of us with her boundless optimism, inner strength, and tireless energy. Isabel will be missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. A private family gathering will be held at Ocean View Burial Park to honour her. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to the BC Cancer Foundation would be appreciated.
