There is NO John ROPER Jr. (b abt 1660, d 1737 - Charles City, VA)

John ROPER Jr. (b abt 1660, d 1737 - Charles City, VA) is a FICTIONAL composite of several contemporary ROPERs INVENTED out of thin air to explain sparse ROPER data in Colonial Virginia. NO SUCH PERSON EVER EXISTED!

You have about as much chance of finding a connection to Peter Pan!

While it is certainly POSSIBLE that one or more children of John ROPER, of Charles City, could have been Christened at St. Peter's, New Kent, the ROPER plantation on the Chickahominy in Charles City County was in Westover Parish, NOT in St. Peter's Parish, New Kent. ALL of the parish records for Westover Parish were LOST. The LOSS of these records does NOT mean that ROPERs from my brnach of the family regularly worshipped at St. Peter's OR that those shown in the St. Peter's records are from MY Charles City County family, though some might be.

There DO exist several very REAL somewhat contemporaneous John ROPERs. NONE of these are believed to have been born in 1660. Dates of birth for several of these John ROPERs are KNOWN. Ascription of a date of birth of 1660 as an average of dates including 1635, 1681 and 1709, has about as much validity as averaging the temperatures of a cup of tap water, a cube of ice and a liter of steam.

One John ROPER is believed to have died abt 1737. This seems UNLIKELY to be my ancestor John ROPER (b abt 1709), since his son David ROPER was born in 1744.

Any genealogy containing a fictitious John ROPER Jr. (b abt 1660, d 1737 - Charles City, VA) is distinguishable by reflecting BAD GENEALOGY and POOR SCHOLARSHIP.

If you are showing ANY family connection to this FICTIONAL John ROPER Jr. I would encourage you to not simply DISCONNECT your lineage from this fraudulent ancestor, but to DELETE this imaginary ancestor from your family history files. Wouldn't it be better to seek to learn about REAL ancestors than imaginary ones?
