Maybe I can help with information on Samuel Rorex. He was my g g grandfather and I was born in the last house he lived in. Samuel's father was William Rorex, Jr., b 1743 in Rowan County, NC. William, Jr's father was William Rorex, Sr., b 1743 and his mother was Margaret Yose (Yost0, b1750. They married 25 Nov 1768 in Rowan County, NC. They moved to Jefferson County, TN about 1797 and lived there until about 1808, when they moved to Lincoln County, TN. William, Sr. died in 1816 and Margart died in 1821. William, Jr. was a member of the Jefferson County militia in 1800, and by 1801 he had moved to Roane County, TN. He signed the petition to form Roane County in 1801. He married Mary "Polly" Keys, b 26 Jun 1791 in Sullivan County, TN, on 14 Jan 1806. William and Mary moved to Jackson County, Alabama in 1819. They had 11 children, Samuel being the second oldest. Samuel was born 22 Oct 1809 in Roane County, TN and was 9 or 10 years old when his parents moved to Alabama. He married Sarah Polson, b23 May 1821 near Pulaski, TN, on 2 Nov 1848. They had 6 children before Sarah died 12 Jun 1864. She is buried in Sublett Churchyard near Pisgah, Al. Samuel married Julia House , b4 Mar 1824, on 3 Nov 1864. They did not have any children. Samuel was one of the first settlers on Sand Mountain, on the south side of the Tennessee River. He settled near what became the town of Pisgah. Rorex Creek runs through what was his farm. Samuel died 15 Aug 1896, nearly 87 years old. He is buried in the Pisgah Cemetery. Julia died 6 Nov 1918 at the age of 94. She is also buried in the Pisgah Cemetery. I have some furthur information that I will share by e-mail if anyone is interested.
