Rose------Tillman & Caswell Connection??
Hoping someone can help on my ROSE family group.
After 35+ years of researching our ROSE family we have made some wonderful break thrus, BUT still can not document who our John Rose descends from.Maybe some of the below clues will connect with other ROSE researchers.
John Rose bn abt 1803 VA - died 1868 Taylor Co, Iowa
Married: (probably in TN) 1st wife unknown
5 documented children but there may be more
Married: May 1859 in Page Co, IA....
Rebecca Goodin (40yrs his junior)
3 children grew to adulthood
1830 census....Wayne Co, TN
1840 census....Washington Co, ILL
Rose, John
male 2 (5-10), 1 (10-15), 1 (30-40)
female 1 (under 5), 1 (10-15), no older female (wife)
Going with the thought that a man would not move to a new location to startup a new place with small children & NO wife.......I would think his wife died between 1835 & 1840.
Since no names or ages are listed on the 1840 census (except head of household) it would be hard to say this is definitely him BUT we lucked out. Joseph Buckingham & James Huggins are his neighbors on this 1840 ILL census and they still are his neighbors on the 1850 IA census. They all moved together from ILL to IA.
I have worked the Family group of Joseph Buckingham & James Huggins, in hopes to find one of them married a ROSE female BUT no connection there.
1850 Page Co, Iowa.
_____________
Documented Children from early marriage
David Rose bn 1828 Wayne Co, TN md Huldah Hurst
Caswell Rose bn 1831 Hardin Co, TN md Sidney Hurst
Mary Ann Rose bn 1832 Ill, md James Luellen
William Rose bn 1835 ILL, md Sarah Nancy Baker
Elizabeth Rose bn ILL, md Richard Magby
***the males in the above ROSE lines carried on the Tillman naming pattern as did the son of Caswell Rose also.
_________________________''
the children from the union with Rebecca Goodin have been documented and carry forward.

Working with the "naming pattern" theory we have
Tillman
Caswell
John Franklin (used over & over again)
Two of the male descendants of this line show on census records as Willim M. Rose.........no mention is every given of what the M stands for.
Just found mention of a William Meredith Rose......his descendants use the name Tilman/Tillman for their males also.????
Thank you for taking the time to sort thru all this.Look forward to hearing imput from others
Marsha
