Hello again,
First off, I want to thank Joan and Daniel for their assistance and I am looking for detailed maps this weekend.
Daniel, in regards to your question. I believe my lineage goes as follows:
Julien (arrives in Quebec in 1765)
Julien Jr. (1777-1845)
Francois Pontiffe (born 1815-not sure when he died.)
Family moves to Frenchville, Maine sometime between 1850-1853. My grandfather, Oram, was the last of my line to be born there.
Octave, Sr. (1839-1919)
Octave, Jr. (1865-1935)
Oram P. (1915-1986)
shortly after my grandfather's birth, the family moves to Waterville, Maine- where I was born.
Dana H. (1941-)
and finally myself,
Wayne C. (1967-)
A few questions I have would involve certain members of the family, if this is indeed correct to your knowledge: Francois Pontiffe date of death, did his wife marry another Rossignol (got that info from another website and it was quite confusing). Also, Octave Jr. was listed as marrying a Julie Picard on this other website, but I know my great-grandmother's name was Helen Landry.
And on a separate note, do you know any definate origins of the Rossignol name, I have heard everything from a Wonderful singer to a Bird Keeper.
Finally, my grandfather had visited Lake Rossignol in Nova Scotia a couple of years before he died. I took a Labor Day Weekend Holiday there back in '95. I was told that was where we landed when we came over from France, obviously this is before I read about Julien landing in Quebec. Any info on why the lake is named after us?
Thanks again,
Wayne
