I have been researching my family tree and just been to Germany (Schwabish Hall area) Baden Wurttemburg to see my great grandfather's village. He and his two brothers were the first Rothermels to come to the UK in around 1875. They set up Butchers shops in Wellingborough Northants
I was told in Germany that Rothermel certainly did mean Red Sleeve but depicted a farmer as most slaughtered their own meat.
I am creating a family website with photographs.
