Hi everyone,

I have ROUND ancestors from Dudley in Worcestershire, England. My great, great, great grandfather William ROUND was born sometime between 1805 and 1811 in Dudley, and married Lucy WHITEHOUSE on 30th June 1827 at St. Thomas' church, Dudley. The original parish records give the following information:

Marriage, 30th June 1827
------------------------
William Round of this parish, bachelor and
Lucy Whitehouse of this parish, spinster
were married in this church by Banns this thirtieth day of June 1827
by me JBooth, Curate

This marriage was soleminized by us
William Round X his mark
Lucy Whithouse X her mark
in the prescence of us
Joseph Whitehouse [his own handwriting]
Martha Roun X her mark

William and Lucy's family is recorded on the 1841 census as follows:

1841. Salop Street, Dudley
--------------------------
William ROUND, 30, nailor, yes [born in the county]
Lucy, 30, yes
Isaac, 12, yes
Lucy, 10, yes
Thomas, 7, yes
Rebecca, 2, yes

I have found likely baptismal dates for the above children in the IGI:

batch 7531722:
Isaac ROUND chr 27th January 1828 at Dudley St Thomas, William ROUND/Lucy

batch 7531812:
Lucy ROUND chr. 19th Dec 1830 at Dudley St Thomas, William ROUND/Lucy
Thomas ROUND chr. 7th Dec 1834 at Dudley St Thomas, William ROUND/Lucy
Rebecca ROUND chr. 12th May 1839 at Dudley St Thomas, William ROUND/Lucy

I have also found the record of Isaac's baptism in the original parish records for St Thomas', Dudley:

27 January 1828: Isaac son of William and Lucy Round
Abode: Dudley
Father's occupation: miner

William and Lucy appear to have had other children after 1841, as recorded on the IGI:

LDS film 458331:
Martha, born 1846, d/o William and Mrs Lucy Round, Dudley, WOR
Ann, born 1844, d/o William and Mrs Lucy Round, Dudley, WOR
William, born 1850, s/o William and Mrs Lucy Round, Dudley, WOR

Isaac ROUND was my great great great grandfather. He married Hannah between 1845 and 1849. I don't yet know her surname, but have found their family on the censuses for 1861, 1871 and 1881:

Isaac and Hannah's son John ROUND was my great great grandfather. He was born in either 1855 or 1856, but I hav yet to find the record of his birth (there are many John ROUNDs born in Dudley in the GRO index for those years!). John married Mary Ann WHITCHURCH on 17th March 1880, and their marriage certificate records the followinf information:

17th March 1880. Marriage in the parish church of Sedgley.
John ROUND, 24, bachelor, striker, res in Shavers End. Father: Isaac ROUND, miner
Mary Ann WHITCHURCH, 23, spinster, res in Shavers End. Father: John WHITCHURCH, bootmaker.
Witnesses: Samuel WALTON, Hannah WALTON [Hannah is Mary Ann's sister]
Minister: Malcolm R. Graham.
[John signed, Mary Ann, Samuel and Hannah made X marks].

John and Mary appear on the 1881 census for Crockett Street, living next door to her parents John and Harriet WHITCHURCH. For info on the WHITCHURCH family please refer to the WHITCHURCH Genforum.

1881. 7, Crockett Street, Dudley
--------------------------------

John and Mary Ann's children were called Norman, William, Annie Lizzie, Rose, and Wilfred. Annie Lizzie was my great grandmother, and married George Robert EDWARDS in 1910. I have photographs of William, Annie Lizzie and Wilf.

PLEASE do get in touch if you have any interest in the above families. Thanks!

Toni
