The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, December 27, 1906

The remains of the late GEO. B. ROUTT, arrived in Chariton, Friday evening,
and the funeral was held on Sunday from the M.E. Church, conducted by Rev. N
Evans. MR. ROUTT died at the home of his daughter, MRS. W.W. WILLIS, at
Everton, Arkansas, on the 20th inst., his fatal illness being complications
peculiar to old age. His family consists of six sons and three daughters,
his wife having died several years since. Six of his children were present
at the funeral: JOHN and HENRY, of Des Moines; WILL and GEORGE, of Omaha;
ROBERT, of Wichita, Kansas; and MRS. HELEN ANDREWS, of Centerville Iowa.

He was well known in Lucas County where he resided and for several terms was
the City Assessor of the Town of Chariton. A more extended history of his
life will be given later but briefly the following data is given: He was
born at Green Castle, Indiana, January 19, 1827, and came to Lucas County,
Iowa in 1858, residing here until 1891; was married to AMY A. WHEELER in
1860. A grandson, RUSSELL ROUTT, was also present, from Omaha.
