Joshua,

My name is Marilyn Routt Thomason and I am the eldest daughter of Joseph Eugene Routt. Your grandfather was my "Uncle Chip" and my father's brother.

My father married my mother, Marilyn Maddox (of Houston), on March 1, 1941. I was born exactly one year later. As you know, Joe Routt was killed in the war and my mother later remarried James Neal Thomason...another great Texas A&M football player who was on the 1939 A&M Championship Team. My father, Joe, and adoptive father, Jim, were also good friends.

It was Eugene Otis Routt (my grandfather, your great-grandfather) who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the back steps of his ranch house. Milton and Uncle Chip (your grandfather) died, I'm told, within hours of each other with the same illness.

I'm just beginning to search out my family history and would be happy to share information with you. It was a great surprise for me to find your message on this website. Please feel free to contact me if you want to continue further discussions or share information.

Marilyn Routt Thomason
