My great great grandfather was John Charles Franklin Roe. He was born in Iowa County, Iowa in 1861. He was married to Nancy Moriah Lane and they had my great grandmother Clara Ethel Roe in Millersberg, Iowa County, Iowa. I have not had any info on John's parent's until just yesterday I came upon the 1856 Iowa Census that listed:
Jeramiah Roe age 43 born Conn
Cathern Roe age 35 born Michigan
Mary E. Roe age 16 born Ohio
Caroline L. Roe age 13 born Ohio
William E. Roe age 8 born Ohio
Salome age 6 born Ohio
Then I found the 1880 US Census Pilot,Iowa County,Iowa
Jeremiah B. Row age 66 Self born Conn
father born NY mother born Conn
Rachael Row age 56 Wife born KY
father born KY mother born KY
Charles J. F. Row age 20 Son born IA
father born CT mother born MA
Nancy M. Lane age 25 SDau born IL
father born KY mother born KY
I also just came across Jeremiah Rowe on the 1850 Census in Carlisle Twp.,Lorain Co. Ohio with his wife Catherine and children Mary E., Caroline D., William E. and Solomon.
These seem to match your search. It looks to me like my great great grandfather John Charles married his stepsister, daughter of his father's second wife. Please contact me at rick_daily@tones or dailynews5@yahoo.com. I'd like to compare notes.
