My 5th gr-grandparents Martin and Mary Wood(s) Pruitt had a granddaughter Mary Levina Pruitt who married William Echols Rowden in Jersey Co IL. William and Mary supposedly had a son Abram. Abram was supposedly born about 1819 but from what I can figure out from the 1830 census he is not included in the family. To further complicate things most have him born in IL whereas the 1870 census shows a birth in TN. Since the Rowden family came from VA to IL it's highly probable that they travelled through TN or lived in TN for a while just as the Pruitt family did. If Abram really was born in TN then he is not William and Mary Rowden's son and I need to find out if I should have him included in this family or not.
I could find Abram in the 1850 and 1860 census but not in the 1870 census and knew he was deceased by the 1880 census. After reviewing the 1870 Maries Co MO census I have discovered that the Abram Rowden living there is the same Abram Rowden from Jersey Co IL. It should be noted that the youngest two children listed in the 1870 Rowden household appear to have a different surname but are actually Rowden children. Sometime between 1870 and 1880 Abram died. I'm not sure at this point where Abram died as Permelia/Tamelia is listed as a widow with their son Jacob living back in Jersey Co IL in 1880. Some of the children remained in Jersey Co and it could be that she decided it would be best to return to a place she knew better and had family and many friends nearby. In 1900 Permelia/Tamelia is living with her daughter Melinda and her family (husband James Brewer) in Cherokee Co KS where a few of the Rowden family members appear to be living nearby.
If anyone has additional information on this Abram Rowden, I would appreciate hearing who you have as his parents. I know that William Rowden had a brother Nathaniel so it may be that Abram belongs to Nathaniel or yet another brother or cousin.
I will be happy to share what I have found thus far on Abram and his descendants.
