Hi Dan,
I have very little information on Michael Row of Rowsburg Ohio. The family is buried in The Old Rowsburg Cemetery. The information on the markers in the cemetery are as follows:
Row, Michael Died 1840 (34 years old)
Row, Michael Died 1852 (71 years old)
Row, Susannah W/O Michael Died 1851 (61 years old)
I also have information from Will Book 1-Ashland County
(Abstract)- Row, Michael of Perry Twp. Wife-Susanne. Grandson-John Row s/o Michael D.(Deceased) 9 Dec.1845-16 Apr.1852.
There is also a mention in the June 22, 1936 Ashland Times Gazette that "It was noted that the founder of the town, Michael D. Row and his wife are buried in Rowsburg and that they have no direct living descendants"
I would be interested in how your ancestors book has the name "Rowe" written. In my family, the name was Rau (18th century & earlier), "Row" approx 1800 until around the time of the Civil War(1861) at which time the "E" seems to have been added to the end. Although spelled Rowe, the name is still pronounced "Rau" rhymes with "cow"
Indeed the name of the town of Rowsburg, Ohio is still pronounced "Rausburg" by the locals.
What was your ancestors name who wrote the manuscrirt to be published and where will it be published?
Thank you,
Roger Rowe
