I'm looking for information on the Joseph Rowe b. abt 1790 and listed as coming from Vermont in the 1850 Federal census for Knox County, Illinois. He is living next door to my Smelser family north of Galesburg, Illinois near the town of Rio and was apparently one of the first settlers in that area sometime around the conclusion of the Black Hawk Wars. We also see a Joseph Rowe, with a son Joseph Roe mentioned in a Tennessee land transaction in a dated 1845 will that has this "other" Joseph Rowe associated with Philomen Higgins ... who also is a likely associate of our Smelser (Smeltzer) family. So, we are just trying to put the pieces together. Would love to know more about this particular Rowe and in general about the Rowe family from Vermont, Tennessee and Illinois.
