I am the administrator for the Rowland/Roland surname DNA project. All of the participants in our project who have the "I" haplogroup have tested at more than the 12 marker level.(There are about 5) The ones that you have identified must not be members of our project. But I know that I have been contacted by a researcher of the "I" haplogroup who indicated that most everyone of the "I" group that the Rowland/Roland's belong to came from a very specific area of Germany. Also it is very common for people whose ancestors originated in a particular area, before the advent of surnames, to have the same first 12 markers but testing at a higher level of markers shows that there is no close relationship.
