Elaine,
I believe the Rownd's in Louisiana, especially in Livingston and St. Helena Parishes, all descend from a William Rownd who was born in Snowhill, Maryland in 1782.Most of his family was in Louisiana by 1840, and possibly by 1830.There's been a fair amount of documentation of this line.
There seem to be two lines of Rownd's in Iowa. One line is descended from Joshua Rownd b 1786, brother of the above William, through Joshua's son William, and went through Indiana on its way to Iowa.
The other line is descended (probably) from Samuel Rownd, born ca 1744, and went through Ohio on it's way to Iowa. There are still some of these Rownd's left in Ohio. I'm not sure what the relationship of Samuel (a Revolutionary War surgeon) was to the brothers William and Joshua, but it was not that close, even though they were all from near Snowhill Maryland.
I don't think descendents of either of these lines of Iowa Rownd's went to Louisiana, unless it was fairly recently.
Do you know your great grandfather's name?I might have him on my genealogy.I'm trying to track down Rownd's that trace back to colonial Maryland.I'm descended from Joshua.
