As you probably know, all census indexes are imperfect. That being said, there are only 4 Roylance indexed in the 1869 U.S. census and only two born England, neither one is your Joshua. They are:
Thomas age 80 in New Jersey Occ: Fancy Store, with
Ann age 61
Jno age 54 in Utah with
Mary A. 50
Thomas 22
Wm 20
Alma 15
Mary 11
Sarah 9
Olive 6
If you can think of any of name or any other later census, I shall be glad to give it a try
