Joshua Roylance letter from Wards Island, New York to England

I have just posted on my web site a copy of a letter from Joshua Roylance to his mother in England written in 1852from Wards Island New York.

We have had this letter in the family for 152 years. I am afraid the original has vanished but when I was a child I saw it and it was amazing written on very thin paper on both sides both ways across and down.

I have a copy made by my Aunt and this is a transcript of that letter.

I am a somewhat remote relative of Joshua but it came down the family chain to me. I hope some Roylance relatives will find it interesting.

You will see other messages from my daughter Clare on this message board. We did work out the precise relationship but never figured out what it was that made Joshua leave England apparently in disgrace.
