dear Philip,

is your grandfather John Ruan, the businessman, descended from james Ruan, younger brother to Doctor john Ruan both of St. Croix and Philadelphia. They were sent to live with isaac barnes of trenton as boys. John was born 1771. I am from Dr. Johns only son to continue his line, John Gibbs Ruan from his first marriage with Elizabeth Gibbs, also his first son. I have much on my line and some on the St. Croix history from 1736 on. I am in contact with a woman from John and james' first cousin, Richard Gibbs Porter who has in her possession 900 original documents from the families. She has many letters written by dr. john ruan and son john gibbs ruan. as well as by elizabeth, heyliger, james, william, etc
please respond if this is same family.
we have contacted mr. john ruan once in the past with a formal letter i believe but unfortunately we have not heard back.
