GAR Ruckel Post #335

There is a GAR Ruckel Post #335 in Monclova, Ohio dedicated to four Ruckel brothers who lost their lives during the Civil War. These brothers, Philip, John, George and David Ruckel were sons of Catherine and Christopher Ruckel Sr. Six of their sons altogether served in the Civil War.
There is a Soldiers Monument in the Swan Creek Cemetery that contain the names of the soldiers who lost their lives in the Civil War including those of the Ruckel brothers. The Soldiers Monument is being restored and anyone wishing to contribute can do so by sending a donation to: The Monclova Historical Foundation, Soldiers Monument, 8115 Monclova Road, Monclova, Ohio 43542. There is to be a rededication of the Soldiers Monument on May 29, 2000 at 10 AM at Swan Creek Cemetery, including re-enactments and some political dignitaries.
There have been plans made by some of the Ruckel/Ruckles and their descendants to have a meeting on May 28, 2000 after 1 PM at the GAR Ruckel Post or the Community building to exchange some information and get to know one another (building used will be determined by the volume of people attending the meeting). We hope to see you there.
For anyone researching Catherine and Christopher Ruckel Sr., their tombstones are in the back of Swan Creek Cemetery.
My thanks to Dan Wells for all the information he supplied me with and the wonderful pictures of the tombstones of Catherine and Christopher Ruckel and the memorial tombstones that were erected for their sons. Also thanks to John Zabowski the adjutant for the American Legion Post 335 in Toledo,Ohio who investigated and took pictures of the Soldiers Monument and the GAR Ruckel Post and sent them to me even though he had never heard of either of them. And to Barbara Spencer one of the Monclova Township Trustees who has helped to get us a meeting place and has supplied us with details and information. Mary Ruckle of Peoria, Illinois is planning a lot of the adjenda for the meeting. Thanks to Mary for the idea of having the meeting. We hope to meet you there.
