My g.grandmother's family journal, which is written in an old script (possibly Gothic German, or maybe Alsace), says that the grandmother of the family was (before marriage) Margaretha "Rufi", b. 28 September 1821.When Margaretha and two of her brothers, David and Michael, came to the US (or Canada) their name was transcribed into English in at least two ways, as "Russi" and "Rusie". Do you know anything about this "f" letter that seems to be pronounced like an "s" or "sh" and has no exact counterpart in English? Is this the same "f" letter in the name you list here?
Thank you, C.
