I finally got around to reading your message - of 10 years ago
I am of the Mahoning OH Rummels - gr grandpa moved to Nappanee IN - in 1866.
We have long heard that the Johnstown Rummels were connected to the family, and I have talked with some of them, to little result.Yes, I've been to Johnstown, and viewed the areas of the Johnstown Flood. My brother still lives in Pennsylvania (formerly at Ligonier, now near Dubois).
About 1850 two brothers, John and Jacob Rummel, sons of a William Rummel, moved to the Johnstown area.Rummel PA is the area in which they lived.I have not been able to trace much down on their families.(I am a minister in the Church of the Brethren [Dunkers], there are several of the Johnstown Rummels who are ministers in our church.)William Rummel lived in Bedford Co PA (a biography on him is in a Bedford Co history).
William Rummel was the son of Jacob Rummel (1800 at Zullinger, Franklin Co PA - to Somerset Co PA) and grandson of George Rummel of Gettysburg PA (1778)(farm next to the "Cavalry Field" of the Civil War Battlefield, east side of Gettysburg - also called "Rummel's Farm" - a grandson).George was the son of Johan Jacob Rummel, immigrant, who came to America (died in York Co PA) in 1748 with his eldest son (Valentine), and brought his wife and younger children the next year.
I am interested in my connection to the "Johnstown Rummels", anything you can give me, I would appreciate. - and yes, some of our Rummels moved to Indiana PA.
