Runnels/Reynolds
I am researching the connection between the Reynolds/RUNNELS, the James CL
Leas, the Bankstons (and probably the Cantrells) paying attention to two
items with Reynolds/Runnels on the Caswell County website.I would be
grateful to have additional information to understand the Runnels/Reynolds
links to these families.
1.) Daniel Bankstons' grandson, Spencer Runnels Bankston b. Ga d. MS(How
does he connect to the following?)
2.) William Lea (CountryLine Creek) moved to Wilkes, Georgia, son of James
Lea of Country Line Creek.
Will was signed by *Spencer RUNNELS.*
Witness was Joseph Henderson, son-in-law of James Lea of Country Line Creek

William Lea will 1794 Wilkes County, Georgia. Signed by: Spencer Runnels,
witness. Joseph Henderson, Aquillia Bourroughs, John Lea, executors.
Aquillia Bourroughs m. Peggy Parks 1792 in Wilkes County, Georgia. Appears
to be second marriage according to his will a few years later (possibly
1812). I have this exact as he named adult married children in his will.
His wife was a Parks. Burrors-(sp) intermarried with Hendersons and

Reynolds *as sureties. Bordered
that of William Johnson, Thomas Nealey & Samuel JOHNSTON, Thomas Douglas &
D---Van Hook.
Reynolds was b. 1745. May have been related to *Sarah Runnels, Dau. of Mary
Lea. Mary named her
daughter Sarah Runnals & George LEA in her will in (date?)*.
Executors were: James Lea & her son George. Wittnesses were: Richard
Eskridge, James Lea, George Lea.
The "widow" Lea's land in 1783 joined Eskrige on *Cobbs Creek.* George Ex:
gets 260 a.
1790: County of Person division from Caswell.
Person Co. Taxes: William JOHNSTON & "widow" LEA, Mary.
After Mary "widow" LEA death George reduces land to 165 acres.
His land was in Person but his will was filled in Orange Co. Probate 1830,
EX: Wm. A.

In addition, Preston Runnels married Anness Lea, a descendant of James "Country LIne "Lea; Preston and Elijah Runnels were in Clarke County, GA 1804 purchasing from the estate of Peter Bankston whose sister-in-law was Nancy Henderson Bankston, a descendant of James "CL" Lea.
