CHICAGO DAILY TRIBUNE,Monday,February 2,1885 Western Art Association:This association is made up of about twenty young artists,men and women,all of whom have demonstrated their artistic talent,and many of whom have had the advantage of an extended course of study in the schools of Europe...and A.J.Rupert is to be commended for the excellence of a small picture, ON THE ADRIATIC...A.J.Rupert's DISCOURAGED VESTAL is in size and study one of the pretentious pictures of the exhibition.The accessory and detail are strongly handled,but the figures particularly the most conspicuous one hardly maintain the average of merit to the surroundings.The artist,however,must be accorded the credit of conceiving strong subject,if he has not displayed an even strength in carrying it to completion.(MORE)
