Thank you Susan, that information fits very well with what I really know. The surname spellings are a little different but reasonably so.I had no birthplace for my Joseph but had the same birthdate as that which you gave - he died, in Milton, OR, on 30 Dec 1928.On 1 Feb 1857 - someplace - he md Margaret Ann Henkle (17 Jun 1837 - Nov 1890).Her ancestry is well documented in the Junkin and Junkin genealogy of the Henkels, and the Hinkle spelling is common in that volume. She is not in that book, though her father, Aaron, is - however, his marriage is not listed and he supposedly died in 1836, the year before Margaret Ann was born. My father saw a family Bible which listed the Henkle information, and he knew his grandfather, Joseph Coffman, who lived with my family at one time, before I was born.
The ancestry you gave for Joseph is all new to me, though there is a family legend that would tie in with George Rupp and Ursula Von Peterhof - or Peterholtz - but it is a legend without any documentation.I do not know when or why Joseph changed the spelling of his surname but he did tell my father that the name had originally been "Kaufman" but that it had been changed when the move came to America.I do not know if you are interested in his descendants -there were three children, including my grandmother - and I would be more than happy to send you what I have.I would appreciate any additional informationyou have on Joseph, his family (including his siblings) as well as more on his ancestry. He has been a real block for me for some time and what you have given me is already a wonderful step ahead.I hope to hear more from you and I am deeply grateful for what you have already provided.
