Rasco/Rascoe/Rosco/Roscoe/Roscow/Racicot/Rusco/Ruscoe/Rouscoue Families The Rasco/Roscoe DNA Project has begun, its mission is to: 1. Use DNA results to confirm, expand or negate research. Identify specific lineages for all of the various Rasco/Roscoe spellings. 2. Collect, document, and extend Rasco/Roscoe pedigrees to find common ancestors. 3. Help researchers find related families so they can work together to trace their shared heritage. 4. Identify the DNA of ancestor families and compile the families and their lost branches into distinct genetic lineages through DNA matches. 5. Provide research guidance for tracing all Rasco/Roscoe ancestry. Participating in a Surname DNA Project provides: 1. A report on the participant's genetic DNA, which is very close (and sometimes identical) to the earliest known ancestor 2. A classification of the participant's "deep" ancestry, which gives insight into the prehistoric origins of your surname ancestors 3. A sense of camaraderie with all who participate in the Family Project, which is particularly strong for those who share a genetic ancestry 4. Stimulation to family research and sharing of information 5. A wider sense of identity and relationship as we begin to realize how much we are a World Family. 6. A chance to compare your genetic ancestry with those of the surname and the variant spellings 7. Locates the genetic matches that do not share your common surname It will not be necessary to have everyone tested. What is needed for Y-DNA Lineages are male volunteers with a variant of Rasco/Roscoe spellings to be tested. While the testing is still somewhat costly, I recommend locating the eldest male Rasco/Roscoe in your line to be tested. As more testing is accomplished, further volunteers could be sought for additional confirmation of lineages. Family groups could work together to finance the testing average costs are $300. Confirmed pedigrees from the volunteer back to his oldest known ancestor would also be useful. Some of the first areas of interest could be volunteers from the following descendents: 1. James Roscoe (d1697) Chorely, Lancanshire, ENG 2. William Rascow (b1664 Chorely, Lancanshire, ENG – d1700 Blunt Point, Warwick Co. VA) 3. William Rasco (c1746 – d1806 TN) from Bertie Co. NC 4. William Ruscoe (b1633 Great Burstead, Essex, ENG - c1680) lived in Hartford, CT USA 5. Alexander Rascoe (1768 NC – 1855 TN) 6. Roscoe’s from SC during the 1800’s 7. Rasco/Roscoe Families immigrating to USA via New York in the 1800’s 8. Racicot Families Some additional international areas for follow up would be Spain, Italy, Philippines, Mexico, all possible connections to the Rasco/Roscoe surnames. Follow the links below to find out how to submit your results for comparison once your test has been completed. http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=Q78880&special=True&projecttype=S http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/r/roscoe/index.html I will also compile an mtDNA database to assist in the female lines for those interested.
