Dear Peter,

You might be interested in learning more about tracing past brick walls with Y-DNA testing.

Our Roscoe Y-DNA study group for Ruscoe, Rasco, Racicot and similar spellings has already established three different profiles for different Ruscoe lines, and you may match up with one of them with the simple cheek-swab test. We are an informal, private volunteer group of descendants and researchers working to trace our family lines back as far as possible with DNA technology.

The Y-DNA test for Roscoe-surname males, swabbing the inside of the cheek, is easy and quick -- three swabs at 60 seconds each. No blood is involved, and no medical or other information is recorded or obtained. The testkit comes in the mail to the tester's home. Female Roscoe descendants and male Roscoe descendants not having the Roscoe surname can actively participate and advance the study by encouraging their Roscoe-surname brothers, cousins or other Roscoe-surname male relatives to submit a test representing their common Roscoe line.

We have two British Ruscoe testers tracing back to Cheshire and Shropshire, plus an American Roscoe tester tracing back to Ruscoes in Essex. Another tester we are tracing back with traditional research, may turn out be be a Ruscoe, also, which would give us a fourth separate Ruscoe line, tracing back to Lancashire.

Please visit our Roscoe Family History Forum at
and see the explanatory articles including how to get started in Y-DNA testing, Roscoe and Ruscoe family patriarchs, test findings, Roscoe/Ruscoe surnames, and so on. I am working to post a new article on the forum shortly about what we have learned from our first two British Ruscoe tests.

Y-DNA testing has the potential to produce specific, important Ruscoe family history information of unique value that cannot be obtained through any other means with any amount of expense or effort. And it's fun.

If you have any concerns or questions, please email me.
