Chouprin (or Chuprin) c1930's - Armavir or Taganrog Cities

Little is known about our ancestors, the Chouprin family of Rostov-on-Don. Allegedly the name is prevailing first of all in Armavir and Taganrog cities.

While we have been able to trace the maternal line (Wiens), a combination of family disputes, divorce, revolution and war separated our paternal lineage. All that is left is the story of a mother and child's journey through life’s challenges too long to go in to here – but it is a story of survival.

My grandmother, Margarita Wiens was born in March, 1912 at the family home in Alexandrodar (or Velikoknyazheskoye) in the Kuban District, near the Caucasus. Her parents, Jacob Wiens and Maria Fast owned the local brick and tile factory. They were respected members of the community, which was largely Mennonite.

As a teenager, Margarita Wiens fell in love with a Russian boy by the name of Chouprin (he may have come from Amavir). She later married him, against her fathers’ wishes – he wanted her to marry a fellow Mennonite. Margarita was banished and went to live in Rostov-on-Don with her husband. We think he was a builder. They had three children before they eventually separated or divorced:

Valentina (died from Tuberculosis?)
Anatolic (unkown?)
Vitolic (b1936?)

Through a series of events and as a result of the Second World War, Margarita and her youngest child, Vitolic were separated from the Chouprin family and eventually ended up being taken to Kiel, Germany where she worked in a Prisoner of War Camp. After the war Margarita and Vitolic emigrated – she remarried.

Vitolic Chouprin is my father and he would be thrilled to trace his lost family.
