Hi, and thanks for the links. i am looking for the surname FOSTY. i am not certain if it is a shortened form of a similar name or not--i was surprised to find out it was Russian for certain, to be honest. Could it have originated elsewhere? This is my husband's family, and there are few in the family able to give me details, as my husband's grandfather, Peter FOSTY died at the age of 44 of choking while eating. :( He was the last of those who would remember the Russian side at all. So i am completely starting from scratch. i have gotten as far as Anany FOSTY, b. 1887 in Bessarabia. i have two different names for his father: Wasil Fosty, as listed by him on his WWI registration card, and a Vasiliy DIMITROFF, as listed on his marriage license. i am wondering if Dimitroff is a middle name? Wasil and Vasiliy are similar, i think? Any help is appreciated.
