That makes a lot of sense. i had an idea it was something along those lines, but wanted to be sure. i hate to ask, but do the town/village names ring any bells? i need to study a Russian map lol. i'm assuming the year would matter as it pertains to country boundaries changing often...Thanks for any help you could give. If you'll read my reply to the other poster, there's a bit more information about the surname and more information. Thanks for your help!
