Hi again, Zlatica. i neglected to mention that they immigrated to Canada, not the US. That being said, i have yet to find any Canadian naturalization papers for him. i did find his (i'm assuming) immigration voyage in a Canadian passengers list. He immigrated April 17, 1911 on the "Volturno", which sailed from Rotterdam, The Netherlands, to Halifax, Nova Scotia. i am certain he sailed from somewhere else TO Rotterdam, but have yet to find any proof of it. His destination was Sydney, N.S., his occupation "general labouror". Although he enlisted as a soldier for WWI, he was subsequently court-martialed about a year later for "disobeying a superior officer". i don't know how severe his crime actually was, but i do know that in times of war, punishments for an offense like that is infinitely more severe. i also have found what i'm assuming is his voyage back to Canada after the court-martial, around 1918 or so. On his marriage certificate, he is shown as living in Toronto by that time (Oct 14, 1923). His surname is listed as Fosty, but his father's is Dimitroff. (His mother's name is listed as Xeny Stephanoff) On another document (His WWI registration), he lists his father as Wasil Fosty. As you can well imagine, it's all proving to be pretty confusing haha. He consistently lists his religion as Greek Orthodox, so i'm hoping to find old church records, but the problem is i haven't been able to locate his village yet. i have a bungled sort of address listed on his WWI reg card, and with the help of you and others it's starting to make sense, but i haven't been able to find any of the names listed on any of the old Bessarabian maps i can find. So the search continues! Anyway, thank you for your help, and if you have any ideas on how to proceed, i'm all ears! :) Julie Notify Administrator about this message?
