To be honest, i'm not certain about the religion. i had assumed it to be Catholic, but didn't realize there were different types. What i'll do is send you an invitation to view my family tree on ancestry, and it will allow you to look at the documents i have cited. On the passengers list, his is the very last name. He lists as being from Russia, of Russian people, and that he will be a general labourer when he arrives. i'm sure that term is just a blanket word, because when he got married his occupation was "driver".
My husband's family are all Canadian, in fact we live in BC, so i don't think they lived in the states at any time. i did however find an "A. Fosty" on a passenger list arriving in Boston, whose destination was actually Canada, so there may be something there.
Again, thank you for your help. i have no experience searching for Russian records. i know it's not much different than any other research, but the language barrier is making things a bit more difficult. i am almost wondering if he never did become a citizen here in Canada--it would explain the lack of a paper trail...but i doubt he would have been able to register to fight for Canada in WWI, would he?
