From Wikipaedia about Kaunas: The city's name is of Lithuanian origins and most likely derives from a personal name.[1] Before Lithuania regained independence, the city was generally known in English as Kovno, the traditional Slavicized form of its name; the Polish name is Kowno. The traditional Russian name is Ковно, although Каунас has been used since 1940. The Yiddish name is Kovne (קאָװנע), while its names in German include Kaunas and Kauen. Since his wife was supposedly from Kovno, the person from the Lithuanan forum's idea of him being from Aleksotas in the Kaunas district may be correct. I cannot make out the name of the person he was meeting upon arrival according to the ship's manifest. He is on line 10 of the SS Blucher, January 10, 1911 to Ellis Island.
