Hi Mary Mc,
I am Nicole Moore, and James and Honore were my great-great-great grandparents, through their son George. Recently my mother and I went on a fact-finding trip to Biggsville, IL in search of family records. We went through cemetaries looking for people in our family line who lived there. It was there that I spotted James and Honore's headstone. They are buried in the Biggsville Cemetary in Biggsville, IL, and on the headstone, it read:
JAMES FOX
1815-1875
HIS WIFE
HONORE RYAN
1829-1897
and on the back of the headstone:
MICHAEL J
1856-1880
MARY E
1859-1875
CHILDREN OF J&H FOX
The headstone was large, 3' wide by 5' tall, and honestly looked like it was placed there no more than 30 years ago...(it looked brand new and non-weathered) and we suspect that their daughter Annie Oaks paid for it, because she was rumored to have had inherited money from her husband's family.
So, yes, the question about Honore's name has been answered. Her real name was Honore. Not Hannah, not Hannarah, or Onore. On her son's marriage certificate, it named her as 'Nora Ryan', presumably a nickname...We were so excited to have learned all of this information. In addition, my mom just found out today that she worked as a servant girl in Canada at age 17, and we can find census records on her there, and also a bunch of Ryans, which we haven't sorted out yet.
Looking through the county's records, we found out how their son Michael died. He died on December 3, 1880, at age 24 years, 2 months, and 12 days. At 4:00 in the afternoon, he fell off of a wagon(ice?), severely injuring his head and neck. He died 8 hours later, at midnight of December 3.
We know for a fact that Honore and James both were born in Ireland, but their parents remain a mystery, and also what happened to James and Mary. I don't know how much this helped, but I do hope it did. :D Have a good day and God bless,
Nicole
