Because of the casual, if not chaotic, approach to spelling during the 17th-century, I have always assumed that Roylance, Rylance, Rylands, etc. were all variations in spelling of a single family's surname.
I believe I have an unbroken thread of documentation tying my generation to a 10-greats grandfather Richard Rylands, apparently born ca. 1550. The christenings of five children are recorded in the Wilmslow (Cheshire) parish register from 12 January 1574/75 to 9 July 1592.
Richard's son William Rylands (1575-1611) married Elizabeth Eles 1 March 1605/06. William Rylands' daughter Anne was born posthumously and christened 30 January 1611/12. She married William Smyth/Smith in Wilmslow 28 September 1637. Anne is the last of my ancestors born with the Rylands surname.
Is anyone working with this particular Rylands line? If so, please contact me [], as I am always interested in learning more about any of my ancestral lines.
