Hi Paul -
I don't know if I can help you or not. A great-aunt of mine did the research. I want to get into it one of these days but have not done so yet. Anyway, this is the information I have -
My grandfather was John Joseph Rylands. He was born in Liverpool (don't know which area) on 5-4-1889. He died in Cicero, IL on 10-11-1962.
His father was John Sthephen Rylands who was born in Liverpool on 12-26-1855. He sailed for American sometime in the late 1890's. I checked the Ellis Island records and there is an entry for a John Rylands coming over at that time. His wife and their kids (including my grandfather) followed soon thereafter.
John Stehpen married Hannah Haworth on 3-29-1877 at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, Barrow-in-Furness by Rev. T. J. Dent of the United Methodist Free Church, West Hartlepool, England.
John Stephen was the son of Thomas Rylands and Ellen Croft. Thomas was born in 1829 and died on 9-20-1864. Ellen was born in 1830 and died on 5-8-1892. According to my information, they had 4 kids - Mary, Lousia, Sarah Layton and John Stephen.
Thomas was the son of John Rylands (B1798 D1861) and Mary Layton (B1804 D1880).
I have some further info tracing Ellen Croft back but don't know if that would help. Let me know.
From my great-grandfather on down, I have it pretty well traced. Hopefully, one of these days, I can trace it backwards.
Let me know if any of this is helpful or if you have anything than might be helpful to be. Take care.
