Dear J. Johnson, SOOO glad to happen upon your Ryman Auditorium website. My grandmother died before the Internet got more widespread. For years, she wanted to know about the history of the Ryman Auditorium, esp. who it was named after. My grandma's maiden name was Madonna (Donna) Ryman, born in Americus Kansas, March 11, 1907 (I think the year may be wrong). Her father was Benjamin Franklin Ryman, I believe also born in Kansas, but could be wrong. Ben Ryman had many children, at least 6... Grandma never talked much about her siblings, as there was a rift there. Ben Franklin, as she shared, was a very violent man, and abused the children (made her brother, Douglas Ryman, half-death, as she told me).
I would like to find out more about my Ryman ancestry. The only entry I found for Benjamin Franklin Ryman showed he died in Missouri, but I don't know if that's correct. His wife's name was Hattie Ryman.
Can you share some info with me, if you know about these Ryman ancestors, or where to lead me in a search?
Thank you, Susan Friesen, Santa Maria, CA
