After some thought I put 2 and 2 together and figured out that your grandpa Elmer is my Grandma's cousin! We even have some items in our home that were purchased at "Uncle Al's" store down in Covington Kentucky. (Elmer's Dad I presume) My grandmother is Margaret Rauen Biere (lives down the street at the age of 93). Her mother Mathilda Saalfeld Rauen was your great grandpa Al's little sister (if I am correct). Pretty interesting! I have some photos of the Saalfeld family you may be interested in seeing.
