Fr. Saalfeld,
I am glad to hear from a relative of the Western Saalfelds!I am the GrGrGrandson of Clement Saalfeld Sr. of Covington Kentucky-Cigar Maker(1839-1913), brother to Ben Saalfeld and born in Sued-Lohne/Oldenburg Germany. My grandmother Margaret Rauen Biere told me many things about the Saalfelds, but knew very little of those who moved further west.In later years I have come across 2 photos, one of the family on their farm in Nazareth TX, and one in front of a large white house in Oregon (will have to double check). My grandmother said that she didn't think Uncle Ben had any children, therefore your story of how he brought Frank and Henry over from Germany makes perfect sense. She did say that a very long time ago, a Saalfeld priest came to visit from out west, but it had sounded like some time ago.I will check up on my facts, and get back to you.As for Germany, that is very facinating. My wife and I (both 27) just returned from a trip through Germany, and I would be very interested in finding information on any Saalfeld relatives that still live there. My tree for the Saalfeld family pretty much ends with Clem.I believe he came to the U.S. in the mid to late 1860's, and his father's name was possibly George?Any information you may have would be of great intrest to me.There are still many Saalfeld relatives here in N.Kentucky and Cincinnati. I live in Edgewood, Ky.Are there many relatives out your way? Thanks again for the reply.Very nice to hear from you,
Ben
