Daniel, thanks for the nice reply and the additional information. Over the past 20 yeras several wealthy land owners have acquired numerous small ranches in this area and they have made access to the Sasstamoinen homestead site difficult. The old homestead is now very near the Red Lodge Mountain ski area. There is no longer an unobstructed road from the east and there never was a real road from the west, but a 4 wheel drive could get there before the access restrictions. The only legal way there now is to come from the southwest and walk through the forest service land for about 4 miles. If I get there again during an elk hunting trip I will take some photos but it will be hard to fulfill your request.
