The first thing you can do is look on your grandfathers death certificate it will tell you his father and mother.
Then you can go and apply for his birth certificate and start collecting as many facts to prove who his parents were and so forth. The best thing beyone that would be finding out where they being his parents went to church and go get the church records, that is your biggest help!
Then just like anything else get books from the library telling you how to research your ancestors and you will have fun from there!!
