Hi, My late grandfather came from a small village (Zabloduva)close to Bialistok, in Poland, and he migrated to South Africa in about 1904 after a short stay of a year or two, in London, England. His Original name was Harris Gershon Zabludovsky Spelling may differ --Later Changed to Sabel. He had 1 son Maurice, my father, and 3 sisters, Sarah(Sally), Pearl and Irene. He had 2 brothers, who I believe who migrated to Canada and or the USA at a similar date, names changed to Zabel and Sable. I have found details of my grandfather paying his brothers a visit in 1929 found his name in a ship passenger record. One of the north american family was a Prof Henry Sable, daughter named Marjorie. I recall there being relatives in Toronto (Paisley).
I would dearly like to have information on possible family connections in Europe that may have survived the holacaust, also some history of the Zabludowsky families in Bialistok during the 19th centuary, and earlier, if anyone can provide some information. I do believe that the name Zabludovsky or Zabludowsky was almost as common as Smith, in that area of Poland-this perhaps due to the fact that nobody actually had surnames until a decree was passed by a particular Czar, and folk living in Zabloduva all became known as Zabludowsky, meaning sons of Zabloduva.
I still have a brother living in Perth, Australia, named Michael, wife Myrna, their son Steven living in Sydney. I, too, live in Sydney with my wife Barbara, have 2 sons, Harold and Ralph both married with families.
