From documents in the possession of a descendant of the Turner-Sackville marriage.

Memorandum that Ann Lee alias Sackville of the Parish of St Mary Magdalen Laver in Essex, & Ed Turner of Tharfield in Hertfordshire were married about ten of the Clock, of the fourth day of October, 1688, by the Right Reverend Father in God Francis Ld Bp of Ely at his Chappell in Ely House London.
Witness my hand Ed. Turner.
We were married, with Bp Turner’s blessing, at Ely Chapel in London Octob 4 1688.

Note: Ely House Chapel was, until its disposal, the chapel attached to the London residence of the Bishops of Ely. It is now the Roman Catholic church of St Etheldreda, Ely Place, E.C.1. I understand that the contemporary Anglican register does not survive.

The Bishop of Ely was Francis Turner (1638?-1700), a former Rector of Therfield, and like Edward Turner a future non-juror. The two families of Turner were not related, as far as I know, but remained friendly over three generations.

The spelling Anne is used elsewhere, including on the inscription to Ann’s tomb at Therfield.

He was Christned January the 4 following by the Reader of St Andrews Holborn. Ita test Ed: Turner.

Ed: Turner dyed about two of the Clock in the afternoon of the eleventh day of February 1693/4 being Sunday.

Anne the daughter of Edward & Anne Turner was born the third of March twixt seven & eight a clock in the morning in the Pal-Mal in St James’s Parish London; and was baptized by Mr Joseph Merrill March the eighth 1690/1. She had for her Godfather Mr Cratcherard, her Godmothers were Mm A. Lee, & Mrs Touden. Ita test Ed: Turner.

Mary the daughter of Edward & Anne Turner was born twixt ten & eleven of the Clock on the third day of May 1694, & was Christned at Park-Prospect at Westminster by Mr Roger Mitton on the twenty eighth day of the same month. Per me Ed: Turner. She died at Harlow in Essex Aprill 16 1695 & was buried 18th.

Eliz: Daughter of Ed: & Anne Turner was born at Park-Prospect in Westminster on Tuesday the 28th day of May 1695 abt eight of the Clock in the morning. She was Christned by Mr A. Glenn Fellow of Jesus Coll in Camb on Monday the 10th day of June 1695 (being the P of W anniversary birthday). Her Godfather was Mr Charles Proby Fellow of Jesus Coll; Her Godmothers were Mm A. Mrs Alice Lee was born at London on St Thomas day 1644.

Anne the wife of Edwd Turner was born at London Nov: 2d 1667.

Note: Edward’s sister Elizabeth married the Rev John Taylor, Vicar of Harlow, Essex from 1679-1726. His sister Anne married the Rev Daniel Alger, Vicar of Wethersfield, Suffolk, d. 1717.

Reed is an adjoining parish to Therfield. Under the will of Edward’s father, his mother Elizabeth had been left a life interest in a considerable part of the Turner lands in and around Therfield, and he seems to have taken up residence in Therfield only after his mother’s death in 1701
