Read your posting and I too have been studying the West (De La Warr) genealogy. Our West branch is now residing in middle Tennessee but originally came out of Virginia. I have been unable to figure out just where the link is. BUT back in 1970 a fellow named Hoke West from Carthage, Tennessee wrote a book called, "What is in a Name?" about the West family in those parts and he stated that as far as he knows the oldest relative he can find in our line was a Dr. Robert (Robin) West who was an English physician that came to Virginia sometime around 1740 to 1750. I can't figure out how he ties into the English de la Warrs. And I really doubt if I ever find out. Back in those days there probably weren't a lot of records kept in rural areas. However, we do know that we are all related some way some how. And even though he was English the writer believed that he was Scotch-Irish. So go figure! His son, Miles West, a preacher migrated to middle Tennessee and became quite prominent. He owned a great deal of land and was instrumental in setting up several churches and building the local courthouse as well as serving as a Justice in the area.

Are any of your relatives from the middle Tennessee area?
