According to the book, "Saffell Families USA 1732-1978" compiled by Lester Franklin Saffell, Jr and Opal Irene (Carns) Saffell, I find the following information:

Samuel Saffell m. 2 Nov 1831 Anderson Co., KY Sarah Bell Woods b 2 Oct 1804 Pa. ?, she d 12 Dec 1872, was dau/o Joseph Woods & Keziah Bell. Samuel d 26 May 1875. He is listed in 1850 census of Anderson Co., Ky., & 1880. ref in Kentucky Pioneer & Court Records p 89. Land records in 1825, perhaps selling his interest in his father's land. They lived in Anderson Co., Ky. 9 children, all b Ky. (list of children in the book matches yours with some additions).

According to the book, Samuel was the son of Joshua Saffell. Joshua was m (1) 6 Dec 1793 Montgomery Co., Va, to Hannah Baker, Henry Patton, Surety. In 1790 Joshua is listed in Ky., and also in the 1801 tax list of Frankfort, Ky. Family records indicate he settled Anderson Co., Ky ca 3 miles SW of Lawrenceburg.

He and Hannah signed a deed in Franklin Co., Ky. 18 Sep 1797, and he is listed in the 1810 census, same county. Hannah, his wife did ca 1804. They had 4 or more children:
* Elizabeth Saffell b ca 1795, prob Ky, m 8 May 1811 William Wilson in Franklin Co., Ky. He was of Woodford Co., where they lived. In 1824, they sold her interest in father's land.

* John W. Saffell b ca 1802

* Baker Saffell b , he may have died in infancy.

* Samuel Saffell

The Elizabeth (Betsey) Middeton you mentioned was Joshua's second wife.

There is more information available in the book re: this family (second marriage, etc) and two possible further generations back. Please contact me via e-mail if you would like to exchange more information.
