Hi there, Sandra,
My wife's great-grandfather was a Willie T. Saffles (sometimes written just Saffle or even Saffel). If your Willie Thomas was born about the turn of the century (1900), then I'm nearly positive you're close cousins. As nearly as I can tell, most of the family stayed with the original spelling (Saffell), and since my wife's maiden name is spelled Saffles, it seems all the more likely you're related.
Let me know if you don't already have all the info (by posting a follow-up to this message) on your family, as we've got a lot of pictures and stories to share.
