Dear Mike

The names don't sound familiar but Preston, Ct. does.

There were two John Saffords living in New London County, Ct. at the same time, one John and Hannah Newman Safford who lived in Preston and one John and Abigail Martin Safford who lived in Norwich.

I would venture to guess that you need to pursue John and Hannah.

I can give you the names of their children and then you probably need to check the Preston, Ct. records for their descendants.

I did a little hopping around Ct. on the internet several weeks ago, I can't remember quite where but in the surrounding counties and I found quite a few Saffods that moved fairly close by but in other counties of Ct.

As far as I know John and Hannah's children nor grandchildren ended up in Bennington, Vt. and Fairfax, Vt., or even later in upstate New York. John and Abigail's offspring did.

John and Hannah's children are:

John, b Feb 28, 1687-88
Hannah b September 24, 1691
Sarah b December 25, 1694
Mary b March 5, 1697
Elizabeth b January 24, 1700
Margaret b April 24, 1703
Joseph b January 18, 1705
Gideon b March 24, 1709

Contrary to some, John did NOT marry Abigail Martin after the death of Hannah. He did marry a Deborah, as she is mentioned in his will.

This John died in 1736 in the Safford cemetery.

Where does your Robinson line come in? I have two, one of which came from Hardwich, Mass, the other from Phila., Pa. Samuel Robinson, from Hardwich was one of the founders of Bennington, Vermont.

Nancy Lee
