Dear Carol

I haven't been doing much genealogy lately but here goes.

Steven Soddy was Betsey Safford's father, according to the certificate of death. According to this he was born
in Pennsylvania. The maiden name of the mother was Lucy J. from New York.

Betsey died December 26, 1893 and was buried in Beverly, Mass. I'm assuming that she was living at that time with one of her daughters.

I do think, from some information, that Stephen Sawdy (Soddy) was actually born in Rhode Island and his wife was Lucinda, also born in Rhode Island. I believe this because both the names of her parents are the same as my grandmother's accounts. (Louise robinson Hesse Oakley Safford) She stated that her grandmother Lucy Safford Oakely was named after her grandmother.

It also makes sense as the Sawdy family moved to Michigan and is found on the 1840 census.

Betsey was born in Canadaigua, Ontario County New York in 1815 and was married in 1840 in the same area.

The 1850 census has both Betsey and Joseph living in Michigan.

That would make sense that they also moved to Michigan to follow her father and mother.

I am interested to know more about you as you are the first that I have come across that are related to Betsey and Joseph.

If you have any more questions please respond. I would love to hear from you.

Nancy Lee
