I have done some Sawdy research but cannot say with 100 percent accuracy that Valentine was Betsey's brother.
I was also, in the past, in contact with someone else in Michigan who is a descendent through Valentine.
I had been thinking of trying to find a birth certificate for Betsey but hadn't gotten around to it.
It is interesting that the name Sidney was also given to a Safford, along with the name Stephen. Stephen was one of Betsey's son's name.
If you have more information I would love to have it.
Do you have anything about the Sawdy family living in Canadaigua New York?
I have been having trouble with the last Joseph Safford's father, Joseph. I can't find anything concrete about him from 1847 onward. According to my grandmother's accounts he died in either Dearborn or Dixborough but I can't find any evidence of him in Michigan. I did find a death certificate for a Joseph Safford in Canada, over the border from Sheldon, Vt where his sister had lived in the past. There was also an 1850 census from Sheldon showing a Joseph Safford living with a nephew. I believe this is our Joseph. I can explain in greater detail later on if you want.

We had to change our e-mail last year as we were getting between one hundred to two hundred e-mails a day, all spam, some of which were definitely not nice. Now we get around 3 a day, much nicer.
