Hi Michael, I've traced my Safford line as follows: Ida Mae Safford, my grandmother bn Mich, 1878, her father Albert Safford, bn. 1856. Williamstown, NY, his father, Willard Safford, bn 1829 williamstown, NY to his father Joseph Safford bn 1783, Washington Co, NY to his father Jonathan Safford bn 1760 in Preston, Conn to his father Jonathan Safford bn 1738 Preston, Con to his father Joseph Safford(Patience Yeomans) bn 1705 Preston, Conn to his father John Safford(Abibail Martin) bn 1662 Ipswich, Mass to his father John (Sarah Lowe) bn 1633 to his father Thomas Safford bn 1605. Thomas Safford thru Jonathan Safford line is in Saffords In America by E.S. Safford (1922 ?) The weak link in Jonathan 1760 to Joseph 1783. Since Jonathan 1760 was in Argyle, Washington, N.Y. in the 1790 US Census and Joseph 1783 and his brother Jonathan 1789/90 were both bn in Washington Co. N.Y. according to later census. The conection was mostly thru the process of elimination as many of Gideons family were in the same area. I've been aware of the John and Abigale Martin difference of opinion for many years but have never heard of a definitive answer to date. if this is not correct let me know. Thanks Gary
