Dear Ramona

You will need to find the books The Ohio Valley Saffords and the Norwich Vital statistics.

The Ohio Valley Saffords was compiled in 1895 and there are copies available to read. Pages 52-55 talk about the TWO John Saffords and their various wives. Both came from Ipswich. One moved to Norwich, Ct, the other to Preston, Ct. Page 165 talkes about Josiah Safford from Staffordshire, in 1670, and settled in Ipswich. On July 11, 1702 the son, John, married Abigail Martin. John and Abigail moved to Norwich. One page 166 there is a lineage of both Joseph and John, the son.

John married Lydia Hebard in Norwich, Feb 20, 1738-9. It must have been a hurried marraige as their first child John was born Aug 3, 1738.

John and Abigail are buried in the Ames Cemetery in Lisbon, Ct., very near to Norwich. My son had the opportunity several years ago to visit it. There isn't much there and he had to prop up the headstone of John. There probably won't be much left in a few years.

The children of John and Abigail were: Abigail, b 1703, Joesph, b 1705, John, b 1711, Solomon, b 1713 and Sarah, b 1718.

John's children were John, b 1738, Josiah, b 1740, Lydia, b 1743, Jedediah, 1746, Elisha, b 1748, Zerviah, 1750, Sabra, 1752 and Silas, b 1755.

Hope this helps.

Nancy Lee
